CISSR ANNUAL MEETING ON CHRISTIAN ORIGINS

Secondly, we would like to forward to you some noteworthy information that has been made public by Mara Roscio, representing the board of CISSR, concerning the association´s third annual meeting:

“Dear colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the organizing committee of the CISSR - Italian Centre for Advanced Studies on Religions, it is a great pleasure to inform you that the call for papers for the Third Annual Meeting on Christian Origins (September 29 – October 1, 2016 ) is officially open. It is now possible, therefore, to register online and submit a paper proposal: see the page “How to Participate” (Italian version: “Comepartecipare”)

- N.B.: The call for papers closes on April 30, 2016.

As in the past years, the conference will take place in the nice location of Bertinoro (a small and picturesque village near Bologna and Ravenna) and will be hosted by the CEUB - University Residential Centre of Bertinoro. The Centre has its own conference facilities, including a variety of office and meeting spaces, accommodation and canteen.

The Annual Meetings on Christian Origins wish to provide a space for scientific debate on the historical Jesus, the history of the early groups of Jesus’ followers, and the interpretation of early Christian writings (1st and 2nd cent.), as well as other cognate fields of inquiry. The meetings take the form of “Programme Units”, coordinated by specialists and young researchers. Papers are expected from a wide range of perspectives. This year we will feature panels on topics such as:

  • Ancient Intellectual Culture
  • Anthropology of Religious Forms and Identities
  • Apocryphal and Canonical Gospels: Their Sources and Reciprocal Relations
  • Archaeology and Christian Origins
  • Christ Groups and Ancient Associations
  • Christian Origins: Modern Myths and Historical Representations
  • Discussion of Recent Books
  • Early Groups of Jesus’ Followers
  • Gospel of Thomas, Nag Hammadi, and Gnosticism
  • Historical Jesus
  • History of the Research on Jesus in Modern and Contemporary Times
  • Jewish History and Hellenistic Judaism
  • Mark and the Other Gospels
  • Methodological Questions: Memory, Cognitive Studies, Sociology, Anthropology
  • Methods for the Study of Documentary Papyri
  • Re-Dating the Early Christian Texts
  • Religious Practices and Experiences in Hellenistic-Roman Judaism and Early Christianity (2nd cent. BCE – 4th Century CE)

Hoping you can join us in Bertinoro...

Best Regards

Mara Rescio”
